WINONA, Minn. — Summer is in full swing, but before long it will be time to start thinking about back to school and fall programs. The Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) invites the public to its Fall Open House on Wednesday, Aug. 23 from 4-7 p.m. at MCA’s home, the Valencia Arts Center at 1164 W. 10th St., Winona.

Here’s the MCA Open House schedule:

  • 4-7 p.m. / Meet the MCA faculty, Second Chance Dance Sale, shoe fittings, register for classes, play on the 8-foot floor piano, enter the coloring contest, win prizes, and enjoy treats.
  • 4:30-6:30 p.m. / Explore “Echoes,” an art exhibit in Galleria Valencia by local artist Dan Eastman and then each child in attendance may pick out and take home a piece.
  • 6-7 p.m. / Middle and High School students, come learn about MCA’s new National Honors Society for Dance Arts Chapter through National Dance Educators Organization.

Attendees will have the opportunity to win MCA swag, as well as a gift certificate to Rochester’s premier dance attire store Blades to Ballet, a pass to Winona’s Indoor Park The Playground, a pass to the Children’s Museum of La Crosse, tickets to a Page Series show, a subscription to A Ballet Education, a copy of the new Winona Coloring book, and more prize giveaways.

Back by popular demand is the Second Chance Dance Sale—a great way grow as a community by helping to provide each other with necessities for creating beautiful art. Over the years, MCA has acquired a significant amount of dance shoes and attire that will be available to our patrons at very reduced prices. Tables will be set up with items to peruse and all funds raised will be used to support the MCA scholarship fund and other programs. If any MCA families have attire that their dancers have outgrown or has fallen out of use, you may request a table to sell or swap your items as well. There is no charge for families to set up a table, just let Megan in the office at MCA know that you desire one by emailing or calling 507-453-5500.

In addition, this MCA Open House will feature a coloring contest for all ages utilizing the MCA page in the Winona Coloring book designed by local artist Julie Johnston; information sessions about how middle and high school students can become members of the National Honors Society for Dance Arts; and an Art Giveaway for Kids.
