It was a weekend of sharing memories.
For the 50th reunion class of 1967, words like “mixers,” “Sammy’s,” and “Holzinger Lodge” prompted smiles, and details about practical jokes (some printable, others not so much) elicited uproarious laughter.
Approximately 465 alumni from class years spanning 1952 to 2017 gathered together at Saint Mary’s Winona Campus for Reunion Weekend 2017. Old nicknames were shouted, hugs were exchanged, and everyone had an opportunity to reconnect with each other, as well as with their alma mater.
The Class of 1967 presented a record class gift of $600,100, to Brother William Mann, Saint Mary’s president, during their anniversary dinner on June 23. Many individual donors directed their gifts to specific scholarship funds and the endowment, as well as to the Science, Business, First Generation, Athletics, Scholarships, and Lasallian Formation Initiatives—in support of Discover Inspire Lead—the Campaign for Saint Mary’s University and in gratitude for their Saint Mary’s experience.
On Saturday, the university dedicated the Roger S. Haydock ’67 Student Learning Commons in the Science and Learning Center. Haydock, a current trustee, is a professor at Mitchell Hamline School of Law and, throughout his career, he has been the mediator for over 500 federal and state cases. He has remained connected to Saint Mary’s in numerous ways including serving on the Alumni Board, and now a named space honors his generosity and his legacy.
A highlight of the weekend included the alumni award presentations on June 24. This year’s Distinguished Alumnus Award recipient was Dick Drogosz ’61 of Freeport, Ill.; the Alumni Appreciation Award recipient was Molly (Murphy) O’Keefe ’97 of Woodbury, Minn.; the Lasallian Service Award was presented to Giles Wilborn ’61, M’66 of Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.; and the Outstanding Young Alumna Award was given to Anne Harala ’06 of Duluth, Minn. A huge thank you to everyone who “came home” for Reunion Weekend 2017. We wish you many blessings and hope to see you again soon!
