Our Lasallian Catholic identity was celebrated robustly last week on the Twin Cities campus with events held for the international Lasallian Week of Peace. A visible, ever-present highlight of the week’s activities included the dedication of a Peace Pole on the Twin Cities campus front lawn outside of La Salle Hall. Pictured are some of the members of the Week of Peace planning committee.
This year’s theme, “Peace is Possible,” celebrated the 50th anniversary of Pope John XXIII’s Encyclical Pacem in Terris published in 1963. As Brother Álvaro Rodríguez Echeverría discussed in his article “Peace is Possible” (2013), the Encyclical was a call to people of all faiths to foster a peaceful society that respects human rights and is predicated on the values of truth, justice, charity and freedom.
