‘Veteran’ campus trees get a checkup and prescription

The university asked Ed Hayes, a noted Minnesota arborist from Rochester, to assess some of the larger trees on the Winona campus and to prescribe treatment to keep them healthy. Hayes has previously worked on the “Brother Charles Oak” in front of LaSalle Hall. On Tuesday, he and his crew attached cables to hold together the main branches of a large Kentucky coffee tree in front of Saint Mary’s Hall. The university’s goal is to preserve mature trees that provide an attractive canopy for campus.
