The summer months are an opportune time for faculty and staff to deepen their understanding of the university’s mission; of the heritage of the Christian Brothers and the founder, Saint John Baptist de La Salle; and of the application of Lasallian principles in today’s world. The Office of Mission is facilitating participation of university personnel from both the Winona and Twin Cities campuses in local, regional and international formation programs. In June, three faculty attended the International Association of Lasallian Universities conference in Rome — where two Saint Mary’s professors helped to direct the program — and 18 attended the Lasallian Summer Retreat with Brother Gerard Rummery in Owatonna. The Buttimer Institute of Lasallian Studies is concluding this week, with 10 Saint Mary’s participants and Brother William as a presenter. Two faculty and staff will attend the late-July Lasallian Social Justice Institute in Chicago, and Lasallian Mission Days will be offered to faculty and staff in early August.
