As a further expression of the ecumenical and religious openness that characterizes our Lasallian Catholic heritage, Brother William, members of the President’s Council, some members of the faculty and Student Life staff, and others welcomed to campus Eboo Patel, founder and president of Interfaith Youth Core, for the third in a series of dialogs called Cardinal Conversations.
Mr. Patel, who’s written two books about interfaith cooperation — “Acts of Faith” and the most recent “Sacred Ground” — spoke of the imperative for dialog between faiths so as not to let intolerance be the dominant voice. He believes that colleges and universities are the perfect place to foster such interfaith shared inquiry and understanding. He encouraged those present to do all of these things from a deep and broad understanding of our rich Lasallian Catholic heritage. During his visit, Mr. Patel also met with Lasallian Core Traditions faculty and members of the Living Learning Community Task Force.
Interfaith Youth Core campus partnership director, Laura Hollinger Antonelli, continued the discussion by meeting with two groups to discuss how the text “Acts of Faith” and its strategies could be integrated to the Saint Mary’s student experience both in and out of the classroom.
