Lasallians from throughout the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools gathered at the Generalate in Rome from May 5–17 for the second International Mission Assembly. Dr. Roxanne Eubank, director of Saint Mary’s Institute for Lasallian Studies and core professor in the Ed.D. in Leadership was a delegate representing the Midwest District of the Christian Brothers. With the theme “One Family, One Mission: Lasallians Associated for the Educational Service of the Poor,” the assembly was a forward-thinking gathering to take strategic planning to the global level and highlight association between the Brothers and their lay partners to provide students with an innovative, transformative and holistic education.
The Assembly’s 140 participants represented the approximately 5,000 Christian Brothers and 80,000 partners who serve nearly 900,000 students in 80 countries. Together the delegates worked to develop a long-term plan to respond to the needs of today’s students in the vision of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. Outcomes of the Assembly will be presented at the 45th General Chapter of the Institute in 2014.
